Help the roses through the winter!!
How to help your roses the best way through winter time ? Here are some do's and don'ts, in order to bring your roses healthy through the winter.
Do's 1: Plant your roses in a way that the budding will be at least 5 cm below the surface. (see pictures)
Do's 2: Rake the soil high among your roses. You'll get lots of small piles. But this way your roses will be optimally protected from frost. When the frost period is over you just rake everything back among the roses.
Don'ts: Never cover your roses with plastic. This normally results in to the fact that your roses get to less air (oxygen). The roses might suffocate.
Don'ts: do not cut your roses to short after the last flowering (around November). A rose stem usually freezes a little inward. Keep it at least 20 to 30 cm from the ground.
